Major WCP Collaborators
With growing interest in Wallace and the recognition of his importance and role in the history of science several large projects are being planned or are in progress in various parts of the world. Two projects which the WCP is collaborating closely with are:-
1) The Alfred Russel Wallace Page: This long running project managed by Professor Charles H. Smith (Western Kentucky University, USA) has a website which includes a comprehensive bibliography and transcripts of all of Wallace's published writings, including his published letters (see http://people.wku.edu/charles.smith/index1.htm). Prof. Smith has agreed to make transcripts of the letters available to the WCP for inclusion in the project's online database. This will enable them to easily be compared with the manuscript versions, where these exist.
2) Wallace Online: This project has recently (2009) been set up at the National University of Singapore by Dr John van Wyhe. It will run for three years and its aim is to digitize all of Wallace’s published works plus a selection of his unpublished manuscripts (excluding his correspondence) and make these documents available online. The Wallace Online website will feature a 'union catalogue' of all known Wallace documents, including those in the WCP online database. It will include links to the records in the WCP database, which if clicked on will take the user to the full record, scan and transcription (if one exists) in the WCP online database.
